CofC Welcomes Dean of Engineering, Computing, Mathematics
The College of Charleston welcomes Steve Schreiner, the new dean of the School of Engineering, Computing, and Mathematics.

Steven Schreiner was appointed the inaugural dean of the College of Charleston School of Engineering, Computing, and Mathematics on June 1, 2025. A distinguished leader in engineering education and research, Schreiner brings extensive experience in academic leadership, biomedical engineering and interdisciplinary innovation.
Schreiner joins the College from Manhattan University, where he served as provost and vice president for academic affairs and a professor of electrical and computer engineering. As provost he oversaw five academic schools, academic and student success, international programming, adult learning, non-credit programming, information technology services, instructional design, institutional research and assessment, the library, the registrar’s office, as well as campuswide centers like the Center for Urban Resilience and Environmental Sustainability; the Holocaust, Genocide, and Interfaith Education Center; the Camino ESL Program; and the nationally recognized Veterans Success Center.
Schreiner earned his B.S. in electrical engineering from Western New England University and his Ph.D. in biomedical engineering from Vanderbilt University. His research interests include medical instrumentation, image-guided and robotic surgery, medical imaging, medical signal and image processing and STEM education.
“His passion and experience for STEM education, research and innovation will be invaluable as the College continues to grow and enhance opportunities for its students and faculty as it relates to engineering, computing and mathematics,” says Suzanne Austin, executive vice president for academic affairs and provost.
For his part, Schreiner is looking forward to his new role at the College of Charleston.
