The College of Charleston has been listed in The Princeton Review’s annual Guide to Green Colleges. The guide is a free online resource for college applicants interested in attending schools that foster a culture of environmental responsibility.

To develop the list, The Princeton Review conducted surveys with university administrators at nearly 600 institutions. Questions pertained to sustainability-related policies, practices and programs. Information from students’ green campus experiences was also considered.

“This honor reflects the College of Charleston’s deep commitment to sustainability in every facet of campus life – from our academics and operations to community engagement and student leadership. Being included among the nation’s leading green colleges is not just a milestone – it’s motivation to keep raising the bar,” says Nicole Killen, director of sustainability at the College of Charleston. “Sustainability is woven into the fabric of our campus, and this recognition affirms the hard work of our students, faculty, and staff who make that vision a reality every day.”

“As a senior, I have seen how sustainability has become increasingly integrated into academics at the College of Charleston,” says Abby Malloy who is majoring in environmental and sustainability studies. “Through my involvement at the Center for Sustainable Development, I engage directly with real-world sustainability challenges and contribute to meaningful change on campus and in the surrounding community through the internship program and the Living Labs program.”

The College’s Center for Sustainable Development serves as the Hub for sustainability on campus and seeks to empower the campus community to rethink, restore and redesign human and ecological systems to reach campus-wide sustainability goals. The center has a Sustainability Action Plan that helps guide the campus with engaging year-long events. The plan helps to support sustainability at the College in the areas of carbon neutrality, zero waste, holistic integrated learning and an active sustainability culture.
