Annually, the College of Charleston’s Center for Sustainable Development hosts events in recognition of Sustainability Week.
This year the College is celebrating from March 31 to April 4, with informative and engaging activities that aim to raise awareness and foster discussions on various aspects of sustainability, social justice and community involvement.
Below is this year’s schedule of events.
Equal Access, Equal Opportunity: Navigating Disability and Building Inclusive Futures for All
April 1, 3:30-4:45 p.m.
Albert Simons Center for the Arts, Room 180
Join us for coffee and conversations about navigating disability, led by a panel of students facing different accessibility challenges. Free coffee and snacks will be provided by a local business, Bitty and Beau’s.
“Go Green” Softball Game
April 1, 5-7 p.m.
Patriots Point Athletics Complex
Help us shine a light on the College’s amazing softball team, as we provide opportunities to minimize waste at athletic facilities.
Seeds of Change Market & Festival
April 2, 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
Cistern Yard
Stop by the Cistern Yard to peruse a local community market highlighting vendors and student creatives, an art show and fun activities.
Rooted: Food Justice in America Film & Panel
April 2, 5;30-8 p.m.
School of Natural and Environmental Sciences, Room 129
Join us for a screening of Rooted, a documentary following Germaine Jenkins’ journey founding Fresh Future Farm to combat food insecurity and land injustice. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion on food justice, sustainable agriculture and community-driven solutions.
43 Years Imprisoned in the Land of Freedom

Avery Research Center for African American History and Culture
Listen to the story of Grady Bobbitt, an advocate and storyteller who was incarcerated for more than 43 years, as he shares his lived experience of mass incarceration.
Breaking the Silence: Stories of Afghan Women
April 3, 4-5:30 p.m.
Addlestone Library, Room 227
Join us for a conversation about efforts to improve access to education for women in Afghanistan.
Farm Visit to Fresh Future Farm
April 4, 2025, 12:30 p.m.
School of Natural and Environmental Sciences courtyard
Join the Environmental and Sustainability Studies Program for a tour of Fresh Future Farm, followed by volunteer work including weeding, mulching and event prep in the garden. Transportation is available.
