Introducing the College of Charleston’s newest staff members! We’ve got a big group of new Cougars this time around – all of them bringing a lot of experience, talent and enthusiasm to campus! They’re excited to share their skills with the CofC community, and we’re excited to get to know them!

Find out a little about your new colleagues below – and be sure to welcome them when you see them out and about!

Lauren Boye

Lauren Boye ’24
Assistant Box Office Manager, Sottile Theatre

Background: I am from Anderson, South Carolina. I attended college here at CofC (Class of 2024!) and was able to make the connections that led me to my current position. I worked as a student employee at the Sottile Theatre for two years, as well as working at the Charleston Gaillard Center for two years which connected me with so many people in the arts in Charleston.

Interests: Community is so important to me, personally and professionally. I enjoy going to local markets on the weekends while during the week I spend as much time as I can with my friends and the people I love. I have just recently started learning how to play the drums as well, so that has been a fun new journey!

Looking Forward: Since I attended the College for my undergraduate degree, I formed relationships with so many faculty and staff members that I am excited to expand upon now that I am a College employee. I look forward to attending and working at more basketball games, getting to celebrate with each class at commencement and being a part of all the wonderful productions put on at Sottile Theatre!

Calheiros

Aaron Calheiros
Police Officer, Department of Public Safety

Background: Originally from Georgia, I most recently worked as an office and warehouse manager for Turner’s Furniture in Tallahassee, Florida.

Interests: I enjoy (writing, playing and listening to) music, reading and various TV shoes and movies. I play acoustic and bass guitar, and a little piano.

Looking Forward: I look forward to contributing to the safety and wellbeing of college students and staff, as well as getting to know the community better.

Childress

DaNia Childress
Project Director, Avery Center for African American History and Culture

Background: I am from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where I worked as an associate curator of African American history for the Senator John Heinz History Center. I am a graduate of Claflin University.

Interests: In my spare time, I love to travel and try new restaurants. I am a huge Steelers fan, and my goal is to see them play in every NFL stadium.

Looking Forward: I am looking forward to expanding the Avery Research Center’s local and national partnerships. I am also excited to share the Avery Institute’s collection for further research and connections to the present day.

Mary Kate Cleary

Mary Kate Cleary
Data and Reporting Analyst, Division of Enrollment Planning

Background: I am from the Philadelphia area; my family and I recently moved to Charleston. I have been in analytics for a little over a decade. I began my career in data analytics and reporting at a small university outside of Philadelphia, and most recently led an analytics team for Ally Bank Operations.

Interests: When I am not at work, I enjoy spending time with my family and going to the beach. My hobbies include gardening and learning about interior design and architecture. I hope to take classes in art and historic preservation at the College!

Looking Forward: I am most excited about being a part of the Office of Enrollment Information team and combining my previous experience with what I am learning in my new role. I am looking forward to supporting the team and our partners to help students through the admissions process!

Brett Farrar
Assistant Director of Stewardship, Department of Athletics

Background: I am originally from Phoenix, Arizona, and went to college at Wichita State University to study sport management. My previous role was a senior account executive of ticket sales at the University of Oklahoma.

Interests: I love to watch sports, whether that is on TV or at a live event. I love to play pickleball or go on walks on the beach with my fiancé, Lydia.

Looking Forward: I am excited to meet the people, staff and our donor base who support this university.

Sam Floyd

Sam Floyd
Recreation Coordinator, Campus Recreation Services

Background: Originally from Howell, New Jersey, I graduated in 2021 with a B.S. in recreation and sport management from Coastal Carolina University and spent the 2023–24 academic year as a substitute teacher in Charlotte, North Carolina. Have also spent time at The Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach as a tournament operations intern.

Interests: My hobbies certainly include constantly watching and talking sports. I’m also an extremely average video game player. In my free time, I love heading out to Folly Beach or playing golf.

Looking Forward: I’m super excited to be spending my time in the city of Charleston, where there is always something to do and always something good to eat. I’m eager to learn from our great group over at Campus Recreation Services.

Angus Hager-Guthrie ’08
Police Officer, Department of Public Safety

Background: I was born In Southampton, England. I grew up in Germany and immigrated to the United States in 2000 and have been here since. I graduated from the College of Charleston in 2008 with a degree in political science and graduated from the Charleston School of Law in 2013. I have been a practicing attorney in the field of criminal defense, a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu instructor and a tree climber.

Interests: I love spending time with my two daughters, Dottie and Penny. Seeing them grow up is my greatest joy. In my spare time I like being active by hiking, climbing or kayaking. I also love the movies and reading a good book.

Looking Forward: Being part of the campus again.

Christopher Hilbun
Police Officer, Department of Public Safety

Background: I’m from Los Angeles, California. I was Security Forces in the United States Air Force for eight and a half years, then I was a federal law enforcement officer for the Department of Defense. Now I’m happily here!

Interests: I’m a huge sports fan. Besides sports, I enjoy going out on the water fishing and relaxing.

Looking Forward: I’m excited to help keep the campus safe and be a reliable resource to the facility and students.

Vince Marchetti

Vince Marchetti
Network Engineer, Division of Information Technology

Background: I grew up in Fort Mill, South Carolina. I am a graduate of the University of South Carolina with a bachelor of science in information science. I previously worked as a fiber optics technician.
My most recent work experience was as an IT tech in an education technology environment.

Interests: I enjoy spending time with my family. One of my hobbies is going on long hikes with my dog. I also enjoy watching my favorite Carolina sports teams.

Looking Forward: I am looking forward to collaborating with highly skilled technical professionals to provide the most reliable campus network possible.

Kevin Martinez Muñoz
Associate Director, Department of Residence Life

Background: I am from Ponce, Puerto Rico. My family moved to Mississippi – the Gulf Coast – when I was younger for new opportunities and experiences. While living in Mississippi, I attended Mississippi State University, where I received a B.S. in educational psychology (Hail State!). MSU is where I started my career in student affairs as a resident adviser. I continued my career in student affairs by receiving a M.Ed in higher education and student affairs at the University of South Carolina (Go Gamecocks!). After serving the students at James Madison University, I am excited to bring the new skills I have gained and experiences I have had to the College of Charleston!

Interests: I enjoy watching everything from professional and collegiate sports to Broadway musicals, building LEGO sets, immersing myself at Disney theme parks and eating at local spots in town with family and friends. I can’t wait to explore everything Charleston has to offer and to begin contributing to this beautiful community!

Looking Forward: I’m looking forward to meeting the students at CofC to help them feel seen, heard and empowered to make a change in this world. I know that I will be surrounded by a great team to make all of this happen!

Christian Morris
Boiler/Chiller Technician, Central Energy Plant

Background: I’m from Brooklyn, New York, and have served eight and a half years in the U.S. Navy. In the Navy I traveled all over the U.S. and was stationed onboard the USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) as an engineering laboratory technician. Having specialized in chemistry control on a naval nuclear propulsion plant, I am excited to bring a lot of experience to CofC.

Interests: In my spare time I’m an avid roller skater, beginner surfer and plant caretaker, and I take a big interest in making music.

Looking Forward: I look forward to working with great people for an even greater purpose – and enjoying flexibility and understanding as I attend classes at CofC as well.

Gina Nagel ’21
Assistant Project Manager, Facilities Management

Background: I moved to Charleston from Ohio in 2004 with my family. Throughout college, I worked as a delivery biker/barista and then later as an evening supervisor for Caviar & Bananas on campus! In 2021, I graduated from College of Charleston with a bachelor’s degree in historic preservation and community planning as well as a bachelor’s degree in art history. I completed an internship with the local building company, Renew Urban. Through this internship, I landed a job as a professional tile setter on Kiawah Island. I worked there for four years before joining CofC Facilities Management.

Interests: Music has always been a very important part of my life. I went to an art school for music and studied orchestra for seven years, as well as piano and percussion. Although I have not touched my instruments much since high school, music and music theory are still huge interests of mine. I also played rugby for the College! Rugby and other sports growing up have definitely shaped me into who I am today. These days, I spend most of my free time with my friends watching whatever game happens to be on ESPN (especially if it’s women’s basketball), reading a book or watching some assortment of true crime documentaries!

Looking Forward: I’m ecstatic to be back on campus and surrounded by the history – back to where it all began for me. This is a huge full-circle moment, and I am very grateful. I’m looking forward to expanding on my career and my knowledge, meeting the staff and working with people who have shared construction, architecture and preservation interests as myself. I’ve thoroughly missed the ambiance campus carries, and I’m beyond thrilled to be a part of it again.

Mark Poulin

Project Manager, Facilities Management

Background: I’ve been self-employed via various construction companies for 30 years.

Interests: I love to travel with my wife and brothers – and read and play golf as well. Also, I love watching Cougars basketball!!!

Looking Forward: The people and the atmosphere. And being part of a team again! Finally, learning and growing into new things.

Hannah Purkey
Assistant Director of Scholarships, Division of Institutional Advancement

Background: I am originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and graduated with my B.A. from the University of Pittsburgh. I then lived in the D.C. area for about six and a half years, working at American University and earning my M.Ed. from the School of Education at AU.

Interests: I love hiking, yoga, reading (especially mysteries or thrillers!) and going to movies and concerts. I also love spending time with family and friends, and exploring my new city of Charleston with our new dog, Scruffy!

Looking Forward: I am most looking forward to making the scholarship process easier for everyone involved. Scholarships are incredibly important tools, and I’m excited to help make the process more accessible and inclusive for all who benefit from it.

Ashley Redmond
Director of Development, Division of Institutional Advancement

Background: I was born at Roper Hospital downtown and lived my entire life here in Charleston besides my college years spent at the University of South Carolina as an undergrad majoring in psychology and a graduate student at the Arnold School of Public Health. I recently served as the vice president of development and communications for Florence Crittenton Programs of South Carolina. Prior to that, I was executive director and chief development officer for the Roper St. Francis Foundation for eight years.

Interests: I enjoy pickleball, reading, walking our Boykin spaniel, Skylar, and vacationing with my family.

Looking Forward: I’m excited to be a part of the amazing culture here. My daughter is a freshman, so I also have a parent perspective in my new role. 

Susie Sartain

Susie Sartain ’20
Triage Therapist, Counseling Center

Background: Originally from Georgia, I graduated from the College in 2020 before pursuing my master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling from Wake Forest University. I’ve spent some time growing my private practice, Blossom Counseling, primarily working with young adults in the area.

Interests: I love to read! Finding new cafés or coffee shops to spend an afternoon in is one of my favorite things to do here. I also really like spending time with my dog, Jasper, and cooking (for both of us!).

Looking Forward: It feels really special to be able to work at my alma mater in such a meaningful way – almost a full-circle moment. I’m excited to learn about the changes and growth that have taken place throughout my few years away from campus – and, most importantly, I’m excited to help our students in a meaningful way.

Emma Sheehan
Assistant Operations Manager, School of the Arts

Background: I grew up in Virginia and earned a BFA in theatrical lighting design and technical production from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2017. After graduation, I began my career as the master electrician for the summer stock season at the Winnipesaukee Playhouse in New Hampshire. I then relocated to New York City, where I spent seven years working on off-Broadway productions in roles such as lighting designer, head electrician, light board operator and spotlight operator. Additionally, I traveled with two national tours, serving as assistant head electrician for one and lighting supervisor and stage manager for the other.

Interests: I love spending time outside, reading, attending live theater and concerts, and attempting crochet projects.

Looking Forward: I am thrilled to collaborate with my new colleagues and eager to deepen my knowledge of both the College of Charleston and the vibrant city!

Cliff Smith

Cliff Smith
Director of Parent Engagement and Leadership Giving, Division of Institutional Advancement

Background: I was born and raised in Fairfield County, Connecticut, about 60 minutes outside NYC. Before College of Charleston, I was a luxury real estate agent selling stunning estates in Greenwich, New Cannaan, Darien and Westport, Connecticut. Before this, I was a sports agent representing professional athletes in the U.S., Europe and Asia, primarily in basketball, Olympic swimming and golf.

Interests: I am a lifelong student and always enjoy learning about a wide range of subjects. I enjoy podcasts on various topics such as world history, science, business and communications. In my spare time I enjoy focusing on health and fitness and getting on the golf course when I can. Last year I competed in two Ironman races in Maine and Maryland.

Looking Forward: I am most looking forward to making an impact on as many students’ college careers as possible and helping to ensure their post-college success. This will be done through my role in obtaining the support and engagement of the parent community while also being an advocate for those parents’ students. It is a very fulfilling honor to be a small part in helping CofC grow and add more resources that will better the current and post-college experiences of the student body.
