7 Fun, Free Ways to Show Your Love at CofC This Valentine's Day

Love is in the air at the College of Charleston this Valentine's Day! Here are some great ways to celebrate the holiday – whether you're lovestruck or not!

A fragrant bouquet of red roses. An indulgent box of rich chocolates. A romantic, candlelit dinner. That sure sounds like Valentine’s Day. But it’s not the only way to celebrate this heart-shaped holiday. After all, love doesn’t quite fit in boxes.

Students at the College of Charleston have a lot of creative ideas for enjoying Valentine’s Day this year. And while a candlelit dinner isn’t on the list, free food certainly is!

Here are seven ways CofC students can celebrate Cupid’s favorite day!

The Cougar Activities Board is hosting a dinner with your pals on Thursday, Feb. 13, at 6:30 p.m. in the Jewish Studies Center. Come enjoy valentine-themed crafts, giveaways and – best of all – quality time with friends! More information is available here.

Come out and support CofC’s softball team as they take on Marshall University at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14. The game will be played at Patriots Point Athletics Complex in Mount Pleasant. Throughout the afternoon, you can dedicate a valentine to your favorite player and enter a raffle to win a Charleston jersey teddy bear! Looks like jewelry isn’t the only kind of diamond you can enjoy on Valentine’s Day! More information is available here.

Want to spend the holiday doing something creative and caring? The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority is making Valentine’s Day cards to share with local senior citizens. Stop by Cougar Mall on Thursday, Feb. 13, between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to add a special note to a local senior’s mailbox this holiday! More information is available here.

Feel like making something other than a Valentine’s Day card? CofC’s Alliance for Planet Earth will be hosting an eco-friendly, valentine-themed Earth craft session in the Rita Liddy Hollings Science Center, Room 103, from 6-7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 13. Hey, the Earth needs a little love on Valentine’s Day, too! More information is available here.

Red isn’t the only type of rose to share on Valentine’s Day. The Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity will be at Cougar Mall between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14, to hand out yellow roses, a symbol of joy and friendship. Swing by to add a little sunshine-yellow to all the red and pink! More information is available here.

The Academic Success and Retention Office will be outside the College of Charleston Bookstore from 10–11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 13, to share motivational messages, love and midterm study tips for students! You can also pick up some ASRO swag and take part in some Valentine’s Day activities. More information is available here.

As part of Darwin Week (Feb. 10–15), the Department of Physics and Astronomy is opening up the rooftop of the Rita Liddy Hollings Science Center for a little stargazing from 7–9 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14! Bring your friends, your dates, your family and fellow Cougars to see the stars from a whole different perspective! More information is available here.
