The College of Charleston campus will be closed for winter break from Dec. 21, 2024, until Jan. 2, 2025.

Classes begin on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2025. Residence halls will reopen at noon on Sunday, Jan. 5, 2024. For information, review https://charleston.edu/housing/move-in-move-out/index.php. Students will need to schedule an appointment to secure a check-in time slot to move in.

All dining halls will be closed during the break. Various dining facilities on campus will open for dinner on Monday, Jan. 6, 2025.

Both the men’s and women’s basketball teams will be in action over the holidays. Check cofcsports.com for a complete schedule.

The Department of Public Safety will monitor the campus over the break. For emergencies, call 911. For routine information and assistance, call Public Safety at 843.953.5609.

Holiday breaks are a vulnerable time for the campus. Thieves take advantage of the decline in foot traffic and overall activity. Here are some safety tips to help protect your personal property over the holiday break:

  • Faculty and staff who utilize offices are reminded to secure their office doors. Please consider locking valuables (phones, laptops, tablets, etc.) in a desk drawer or other secure location. Faculty and staff are also encouraged to follow this energy-saving checklist before leaving campus for the break.
  • Students living in off-campus housing can contact the Charleston Police Department (843.720.2426) to have an officer keep an eye on their residences while they are away. Any faculty, staff or student living outside the immediate area are encouraged to call their local police department, as most law enforcement agencies offer this service.
  • Ensure that you are locking all car doors. Do not leave valuables in plain sight.
  • Be a good neighbor. If you notice anything suspicious, notify the Department of Public Safety or local law enforcement immediately.
