College of Charleston Grounds Recognized with Green Star Award
The Professional Grounds Management Society Green Star Award brings national recognition to the College and the outstanding dedication and excellence in maintaining grounds of the highest caliber.

The Professional Grounds Management Society (PGMS) recognized the College of Charleston’s Grounds team with a Green Star Honor Award at its annual awards celebration during the 2024 PGMS Annual Conference and Equip Expo in Louisville, Kentucky, Oct. 15-18.
During the awards celebration, 23 grounds management programs were recognized for excellence in various categories of the 2024 Green Star Awards Competition, including nine Grand awards, 12 Honor awards and two Merit awards.
CofC Grounds Manager Verneil Phillips – who serves as the vice president of the PGMS South Carolina Branch – and Grounds Supervisor Aaron Tipton accepted the Green Star Honor Award (Urban University Grounds) on behalf of the College of Charleston Grounds team.
This awards program brings national recognition to grounds maintained with a high degree of excellence. The Green Star Awards Competition complements other national landscape award programs that recognize outstanding landscape design and construction.
