College of Charleston Honors College Launches New Program
The ARCH Scholars Program combines specialized coursework, faculty mentoring and peer collaboration to ensure students excel both academically and personally.
The College of Charleston has launched a new program that offers select students an innovative learning experience within the Honors College. The Achievement Realized through Community in Honors (ARCH) Scholars Program provides students with formidable opportunities tailored to early collegiate success.
“The ARCH Scholars Program is a robust and focused two-year experience within the broader Honors College community,” says Salvatore Musumeci, the program’s director. “By combining specialized coursework, faculty mentoring and peer collaboration, this program offers targeted support to ensure students excel both academically and personally during their time at the College.”
ARCH scholars enroll in a personalized First Year Experience course and have access to ARCH sections of popular courses throughout their two years in the program. They’re also eligible for an exclusive ARCH scholars study abroad program in London during the spring semester of their first or second year.
What’s more, ARCH scholars benefit from being members of an Honors College Living-Learning Community. They live within the Honors College freshman residence hall their first year and are eligible for special opportunities like priority registration. And they get to engage with other Honors students through Honors College events and activities.
“The ARCH Scholars Program aligns with my passion for community engagement and leadership,” says Cheyenne Little, a first-year ARCH scholar and political science major. “The program has connected me with like-minded individuals and provided resources that allow me to make a positive impact both on and off campus.”
The program’s inaugural cohort featured 212 students starting at the College this fall. There’s no application process for the ARCH Scholars Program. Students are selected for the program based on their academic achievements from high school.
“We are thrilled to welcome these exceptional students into the Honors College through the ARCH Scholars Program,” says Beth Meyer-Bernstein, dean of the Honors College. “This program nearly doubles the size of our first-year class, and I’m excited to see the dynamic impact this new cohort will have on our campus and community.”
