CofC President Hsu Welcomes Employees to New Semester
President Hsu wishes everyone a happy new semester in this letter addressed to faculty and staff.
Dear Faculty and Staff,
I want to take this opportunity to wish everyone a happy beginning to the semester.
This is going to be another exciting year for all of us here at the College of Charleston. There is so much to look forward to, both inside and outside of the classroom.
I want to welcome those new members on our staff and in our faculty ranks to our campus community. I hope they will find our campus a perfect match for their professional and personal aspirations.
I also want to thank everyone for all of the hard work they put in over the summer to get campus ready for this academic year. A special shout out to our Facilities Management team, who did and continues to do incredible work in making sure our buildings and grounds are ready for the year.
You may have already seen some of the many exciting things happening around campus, such as our Phi Beta Kappa invitation, the Mortar Board National College Senior Honor Society awards, the drafting of Cole Mathis by the Chicago Cubs (becoming the highest MLB draft pick in Cougars’ history) or the feats of our Olympians in Paris. However, that is just the start. Our faculty continues to garner headlines and honors for their groundbreaking research and work, like physics and astronomy professor Joe Carson (who received the SC Research Authority’s Applied Researcher of the Year Award); history professor Shannon Eaves and her new book on the plight of enslaved women; and theatre and dance professor Janine McCabe (recipient of the S.C. Theatre Association’s Excellence in Theatre Design and Technology Award). We are the place for extraordinary people to do extraordinary things!
I can’t wait to see how we, together, build on all of this positive momentum! Best of luck this semester and go Cougars!
Sincerely,
Andrew
