College of Charleston Welcomes New Employees

Introducing the College of Charleston’s newest employees! They come from near and far to share their diverse skills and expertise with the CofC community and contribute to the success of the College. And, while they are delighted to be the newest Cougars on campus, the College is even more delighted to welcome them aboard!

Find out a little about these new colleagues below – and be sure to welcome them when you see them out and about!

Alexis Carr
Retention and Graduation Specialist, Center for Academic Performance and Persistence

Background: I am from Beauregard, Alabama. I am a former middle school English language arts teacher and middle school volleyball, basketball and robotics coach.

Interests: In my spare time I like to bake homemade goods, play and coach basketball, and do arts and crafts.

Looking Forward: I am looking forward to meeting all of the students and making a positive impression on the campus.

John Douglas
Senior Development Officer, Office of Development

Background: I was originally born in Savannah, Georgia, and have lived in the Southeast most of my life, including a previous stint in Charleston. Prior to returning and joining the CofC team, I was in Phoenix, Arizona, where I was the director of foundation relations for Northern Arizona University.

Interests: I am a huge follower of college football. My favorite team is the Georgia Bulldogs. I also enjoy traveling, baking and spending time with friends and family.

Looking Forward: I am excited to get back to the Southeast and be closer to friends and family. I am also looking forward to using my fundraising skills to secure funds that contribute to student success.

Katie Drees
Therapist, Counseling Center

Background: I am originally from South Carolina and moved to Texas to pursue my graduate degree and counseling license. After living in Texas for 15 years and providing counseling and behavior management to children, adolescences and families for 13 years, I decided to move back to my home state to be close to my family and work in the university setting with young adults.

Interests: I am so excited to be in Charleston and near the water. I love any outdoor adventure and being in beautiful places. My dog and I love to explore parks, trails and beaches. You can also find me reading a good book or binge watching a series, anything from reality to rom-com to crime. Eating good food is my favorite, especially if it is with family or friends.

Looking Forward: I am really looking forward to working with college students and helping them navigate this exciting, but at times also trying, journey. I am so excited to part of the counseling team and work closely with other mental health professionals, as well as being part of the campus community.

Aileen Ghee
Director of Email Marketing, Office of Marketing and Communications

Background: I am a New York City transplant whose career spans film, advertising, marketing and content creation. I started my career in television and film, where I honed my storytelling craft. My independent film Witnessing is in the permanent collection of the 911 Memorial Museum Collection. Most recently, I’ve been focused on content creation, writing and marketing strategy for digital. I’ve advised dozens of small businesses and held management roles at CVS Health and New York Women in Business. While at CVS Health, I developed and managed overlapping national campaigns in collaboration with Big Pharma. Locally, I’ve contributed to The Post and Courier and shared my digital marketing expertise with small business owners through SCORE and the City of Charleston.

Interests: I enjoy gardening and Zumba dancing.

Looking Forward: I look forward to attracting great minds to our city.

Hannah Hoover
Adjunct Faculty, Department of Sociology and Anthropology

Background: I grew up in Nashville, Tennessee, and received a B.A. from Tulane University with majors in anthropology and classical studies. I am currently a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Michigan. I’ve lived in the Lowcountry for the past three years while working on my dissertation research, and have mentored several College of Charleston students through archaeological fieldwork.

I apply a wide range of material analyses to understand the daily decisions people make in contexts of political transformation. I am especially interested in the entanglements of Indigenous sovereignty and settler colonialism in the past and present, and work with a multi-vocal praxis that centers Indigenous voices and scholarship. My current research focuses on the Yamasee, a Native American community who built a powerful nation in South Carolina at the turn of the 18th century.

Interests: I love being outdoors and am an avid walker/explorer of the historic towns and landscapes of South Carolina. I also enjoy reading, listening to podcasts and spending time with my cats, Phatty and Phridge.

Looking Forward: I’m excited to extend my interactions with CofC in the classroom! I’ll be teaching Introduction to Anthropology and am eager to explore with students both the diversity of the human experience and the things that bind us all together.

Nate Hubler
Archival Fellow, Avery Research Center for African American History and Culture

Background: After graduating from Temple University (Italian and political science), I worked as a grade-level student advisor for the School District of Philadelphia’s Virtual Academy for three years. While completing my MLIS at Drexel University, I worked at Temple University’s Special Collections Research Center as a project assistant and at the German Society of Pennsylvania as a library intern.

Interests: I enjoy watching pretty much any movie, playing games and getting outdoors to camp and hike.

Looking Forward: I’m excited to be part of a team that’s focused on serving the community and making history accessible.

Adam Martz ’22
Transfer Admissions Counselor, Office of Admissions

Background: I am originally from Ambler, Pennsylvania, and moved to Charleston at the beginning of 2019 when I started at CofC, majoring in psychology with a minor in marketing. Since graduating in 2022, I have been working as a sales manager at a logistics company in Charleston.

Interests: One of my favorite hobbies is to read! I just finished Someone We Know, by Shari Lapena, and I am starting The Fury, by Alex Michaelides, next. I love spending time with my family and friends whenever I can, playing video games, going for walks, being outside, trying new coffee shops and watching competition reality TV shows.

Looking Forward: I am really excited to be back in the CofC community, working with students and different campus departments, and meeting new great people! I think this new role will bring a fresh challenge for me and I’m really excited to get started.

Justin Mills
Carpenter, Facilities Management

Background: I moved to Charleston for a college scholarship after building a cabin in a small town in Missouri for my family.

Interests: My family, school and skateboarding are the most important things to me. We spend our spare time traveling to skate and hit the beach.

Looking Forward: I look forward to the hours and the community.

Mini Narayanan
Office Manager, School of Sciences, Mathematics, and Engineering

Background: I am a former CofC employee, coming back to campus after a gap of one year while my husband was teaching in India.

Interests: My main interest is music.

Looking Forward: Working at CofC defines my personality in multiple dimensions.
