The 15 students in the First Year Experience course, Happiness and Sustainability in Denmark, traveled with psychology professors Jen Wright and Lisa Ross to Denmark this spring break. Here they are (top left) in front of 800-year-old Christiansborg Castle, seat of parliament and offices of King Frederik X and Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen; (top right) in front of the Happiness Museum; (middle) inside the Happiness Museum, where the tour guide and Happiness Research Institute senior analyst shows them the connection between GDP and happiness; and (bottom) atop Amager Bakke, the world’s most modern waste-to-energy plant, which turns trash into electricity and heat, resulting in just 2% of Copenhagen’s garbage going to landfill. Curated for all students – including those just starting to take a peek into what career might fit their passions and interests, and those who are graduating and ready to start their careers – the 2024 Career Exploration Fair was held at the Charleston Gaillard Center on Thursday, Feb. 29, 2024. The Veteran and Military Student Center in the Lightsey Center has recently gotten a facelift. The lounge is a committed space for veteran and active-duty students to relax with fellow veterans and service members, study and meet with the College of Charleston Student Veterans Association (SVA) chapter. It also offers access to computers, a printer, a refrigerator, a microwave and a coffeemaker! (Photos by Catie Cleveland)
