CofC Hosts Marine Biology Graduate Student Colloquium
Support students as they showcase the latest research in coral disease biology, fisheries science and coastal ecosystem health.

The College of Charleston Graduate Program in Marine Biology is hosting a colloquium on Friday, Oct. 9, 2026, to share cutting-edge student research.
It’s a chance to meet local graduate students and explore exciting marine science taking place right here in the Lowcountry. Research presentations range from mariculture to marine organism health, conservation, environmental change and the connections between people and the marine environment.
“This annual event is something we look forward to every year because it brings together our graduate students and the broader marine science community,” says Mike Janech, biology professor at the College. “It gives our students an opportunity to share their research, engage with scientists from across the Lowcountry and receive valuable feedback on their work.’
Importantly, the colloquium also gives the community a chance to meet graduate students and learn firsthand about some of the latest developments in marine science and the research taking place in the local ecosystem.
Alumni of the program now employed by Ft. Johnson partners such as NOAA, NIST, SCDNR and MUSC are expected to attend and offer feedback to current graduate students.
Keep an eye on the event website for abstracts and the final program. Abstracts and the final program will be posted on the event site on Oct. 2, 2026.
