CofC Facilities Management Summer Projects Update
It's been a busy few months! Learn about what College of Charleston Facilities Management has been up to this summer.

While some faculty and staff members were away this summer, Facilities Management was busy caring for the College of Charleston’s 158 buildings – 90 of which were constructed between 1770 and 1940.
Crews spent the summer taking full advantage of mostly empty classrooms and residence halls to tackle building upgrades, updates, renovations and refreshes.
“After a very busy summer that included renovation projects in residence halls, academic buildings, grounds and utility infrastructure, the College welcomed its largest incoming class of students,” says Brad Weiland, vice president of Facilities Management. “I am extremely proud of our staff and their dedication to improving the College.”
Key Project Highlights
- Upgrades to the Central Energy Plant and the campus’ chilled water system
- Work at 159 Calhoun St., the home of the former College Lodge
- A partnership with the Department of Public Safety on pedestrian safety
- A comprehensive campus signage project, including the CofC letters near the entrance of Rivers Green

Stern Student Center (George Street)
Renovation continues on schedule, with plans to welcome students, faculty, staff and visitors back to the renovated facility in January 2027.
Tuccio Student Success Center (St. Philip/George Streets)
Work is well underway, with the expanded building on track for completion by fall 2027.
Grice Marine Laboratory (James Island)
Significant interior and exterior renovations continue, with the project expected to be completed in December 2026.

Former Wentworth Street Parking Garage
The City of Charleston continues the demolition.
106 Coming Street
As approved by Charleston’s Board of Architectural Review in 2025, demolition is underway at the one-story structure.
Former Residence Hall on Calhoun Street
The BAR-approved demo (2024) has begun.
