The Signs Are Everywhere at the College of Charleston
A comprehensive campus signage project brings welcome updates to building branding – and a fun, new addition to Rivers Green.

While many students, faculty and staff were away from campus over the summer months, Facilities Management crews were hard at work installing banners and building identification to more than a dozen buildings from centers to schools to residence halls.
The signage project, designed to enhance visibility with more cohesive, recognizable building identification, came with an interactive bonus: large CofC letters near the entrance to Rivers Green that fairly beg passersby to snap selfies.
“Every single time I walk by, I see at least one person taking a photo in front of the new letters. Groups were taking photos as soon as we planted the logo, even before we completed the full project,” says Gina Nagel, project manager. “This install has become an immediate hit across campus. For first day of class photos to graduation photos, the Clyde the Cougar statue in Cougar Mall now has some competition.”

The comprehensive signage project, which spanned several weeks in July and August, resulted in upgrades to building IDs at:
- 181 Calhoun Street, 101 Warren Street and 65 George Street
- 44 George Street
- 427 Warren Street
- Stern Student Center
- Lightsey Center
- Silcox
- School of Natural and Environmental Sciences
- School of Education
- Glenn McConnell Residence Hall
- F. Mitchell Johnson Gym
“This new physical signage provides more consistent brand identity for the College and helps the campus and broader community see that campus is not bound by Calhoun, St. Philip, George and Coming streets,” says Chris Tino, senior project manager.
