The Princeton Review Features College of Charleston
For the 25th consecutive year, the College of Charleston has been featured in The Princeton Review's annual guide of "The Best Colleges."
The College of Charleston is earning praise as one of the nation’s best institutions for undergraduate students by The Princeton Review.
The education services company featured CofC in its annual college guide, The Best 392 Colleges: 2027 Edition.
“We are honored to be recognized among the best undergraduate institutions in the country and take great pride in providing an exceptional undergraduate education and campus experience,” says Andrew T. Hsu, president at the College of Charleston. “At the College, our students are not just numbers; our faculty and staff work closely with students to know them, support them and help them succeed. Through our Life Design program, we also help undergraduate students chart a path toward their ambitions and dreams, connecting their education to the lives and careers they hope to build.”
Founded in 1770, the College of Charleston is a public liberal arts institution “focused on educating its students to be well-rounded intellectual citizens.” With 150 undergraduate majors and minors offered, there are a “wide variety of classes and programs” available, ensuring that “there’s something here for almost everyone.” Historic, “beautiful” downtown Charleston doubles as “a unique experience to enjoy and learn from the outdoors while still in an academic setting” and comes with “lots of fieldwork.” That is matched by the “incredible experience and education” professors offer, many of whom “have very interesting and unique backgrounds that help engage students and relate to the real world.” Specifically, they “do a great job of helping students network and gain experience before graduation through internships and on-campus work.” It’s also well-received that “small class sizes make it easy to ask questions and participate in class,” and there’s the sense that faculty are “invested in each student’s learning process, encouraging students to ask them for help if they need it, or to simply stop by during office hours if they want to discuss something.” As one student puts it, Charleston helps “you to have a plan and be ready for anything the future can throw at you … and they have the resources to back up these goals.”

The Princeton Review selected colleges for the book based on data collected from surveys of more than 172,000 students attending the colleges and sharing their campus experiences. The company also reviews data from surveys of college students attending other schools.
Only about 14% of America’s 2,400 four-year colleges are profiled in the publication.
“The colleges we profile in The Best 392 Colleges vary by type, size, locale and campus culture. In our opinion, each one offers an academically outstanding undergraduate education,” says Rob Franek, lead author of the book and editor-in-chief at The Princeton Review. “The colleges that make our ranking lists in the book do so entirely as a result of their own students’ opinions of them.”
