The College of Charleston continues its efforts to partner with a diverse group of community members to help guide the commemoration and development efforts of Coming Street Commons, a planned student residence hall at 106 Coming St. in downtown Charleston.

The Community Engagement Council (CEC) will reconvene on Thursday, Aug. 6, 2026, for further discussion and collaboration.

This hybrid CEC meeting will start at 6 p.m. at the School of Education (86 Wentworth St.) Alumni Center. Please enter through the courtyard on St. Philip St. Community members may also join virtually via YouTube.

The council will discuss a site commemoration event, engagement with funeral directors and project updates.

The CEC plays a central role in supporting the College’s efforts in honoring and memorializing both the former potter’s field and the former YWCA building, providing insight and feedback on potential events, interpretative approaches to the footprint of the construction site and commemoration efforts associated with this project.

Those interested in the project can read a list of frequently asked questions on the project website and join the mailing list at the bottom of the Get Involved page.

Following the Aug. 6 meeting, the next CEC meeting is scheduled for Sept. 3, 2026.
