Sunday Soirée Series Offers Rich Cultural Experience for All
Introducing the College of Charleston Department of Music's new Sunday Soirée Concert Series!

For the 2026–27 event season, the College of Charleston Department of Music introduces a new concert program, the Sunday Soirée Series. A reimagining of its predecessor, the Monday Night Concert series, the concert series highlights exceptional artistry and provides a rich cultural experience while expanding overall access and inclusion.
“The Sunday Soirée Series is special for so many reasons,” says Saundra DeAthos-Meers, chair of the music department and associate professor of voice/opera, adding that scheduling was a major factor in updating the program. “We are carrying on the tradition of the Monday Night Concert Series by reimagining the day and time to make it more accessible to our audiences.”
The one-hour concerts take place almost every Sunday during the academic year at 3:00 p.m. in the Recital Hall of the Simons Center for the Arts (54 Saint Philip St.).
This format promises easier access and fewer barriers to everything the department has to offer, and “positions the concerts nicely after brunch and before Sunday dinner,” says DeAthos-Meers, pointing out that the new afternoon time slot also makes it much easier for residents from Seabrook Island, Kiawah Island and local assisted living facilities to attend. “The Sunday Soirée Series has greater appeal for all audiences.”
Indeed, with at least 23 concerts offering a wide array of genres and styles – from jazz to Latin American to classical music and everything in between – the series has something for everyone. In fact, the impressive variety of performers is what DeAthos-Meers is most looking forward to.
The series’ season starts on Aug. 30, 2026, with the Faculty Showcase Kickoff concert featuring all roster music faculty members followed by a Series Kickoff Reception for those in attendance, and ends on April 25, 2027, with a celebration of the Department of Music’s graduating seniors.
