College of Charleston Alumna Darline Graham Nordone Appointed Interim U.S. Senator
South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster appointed Darline Graham Nordone ’89 to serve as interim U.S. senator on July 13.

College of Charleston alumna Darline Graham Nordone ’89 was appointed by South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster on July 13 to serve as interim U.S. senator. She will fill the Senate seat held by her late brother, U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham, who died suddenly on July 11.
Nordone earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology from the College of Charleston in 1989. She will become the first woman graduate of the College to serve in the U.S. Senate.

Hsu, president of the College of Charleston. “While the circumstances surrounding her selection are heartbreaking, I have every confidence that her education, character and commitment to public service have prepared her to serve the people of South Carolina with integrity during this important time.”
The late Sen. Graham had been seeking reelection this year. The state will hold a special primary to select a new Republican nominee for the November ballot.
