Community Engagement Council to Meet on June 23
The council’s next meeting is June 23.
The College of Charleston continues its efforts to partner with a diverse group of community members to help guide the commemoration and development efforts of Coming Street Commons, a planned student residence hall at 106 Coming St. in downtown Charleston.
The Community Engagement Council (CEC) will reconvene on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, for further discussion and collaboration.

The council will continue to discuss work plan updates (State Historic Preservation Office comments and revisions, permit conditions and regulatory updates), discuss a previous presentation on Board of Architectural Review conceptual design and new construction, discuss pre-disturbance blessing and community recommendations as well as receive updates on community engagement strategy after a recent community survey.
The CEC plays a central role in supporting the College’s efforts in honoring and memorializing both the former potter’s field and the former YWCA, providing insight and feedback on potential events, interpretative approaches to the footprint of the construction site and commemoration efforts associated with this project.
