See something? Say something.

The College of Charleston’s nationally accredited Department of Public Safety is committed to maintaining a safe environment for all students, faculty, staff and visitors.

As part of its efforts, public safety officials are encouraging you to report suspicious activity and emergencies immediately. You can do this through the Cougars on the Watch (formerly Silent Witness) program’s tip form, which serves as a tool to report criminal behavior or policy violations on or near campus.

Anyone can report, which will trigger a review and appropriate public safety response. If you choose, you can remain anonymous.

Cougars on the Watch is not intended for emergencies. In emergencies, always call 911.

“Cougars on the Watch is an easy way for anyone to share concerns in the moment, so public safety officials can become aware of the issue and respond right away,” says Deputy Chief Rusty Myers, who notes that, too often, concerns are shared on social media or well after someone has witnessed suspicious activity, which can hinder police response.

The link may also be shared in campuswide emergency messaging, to help gather information to inform police investigations.

Public Safety offers many crime prevention tips and safety tips on its website, including its Guide to Safer Living and a reference guide on the basics of campus safety and security.
