College of Charleston Photos of the Week
Whether celebrating others' dedication to community engagement, getting our own hands dirty in the name of service, or simply finding a supportive community that gives us purpose: The College of Charleston community is committed to service and learning through change.

The Black History Intercollegiate Consortium’s 36th annual celebration of the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. was held in the Simons Center for the Arts Recital Hall this year. Marla Robertson, assistant director of the Master of Public Administration program, was presented with BHIC’s 2026 MLK Jr. Humanitarian Award at the celebration, which included a performance by CofC’s student a cappella group The Charleston Vibes, a reflection by Bonner Leader Mia Hilton, an opening invocation by CofC Hillel vice president Sophie Messing and a closing invocation by Black Student Union president Jalen Evans. Joshua Smith, president of the Tau Eta Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity presided the program, and representatives from Call Me MISTER and The Sisters of Septima served as ushers. During Martin Luther King Jr. week, a small but mighty crew traveled to Lowcountry Food Bank to sort and pack an estimated 1,800 pounds of fresh produce for the food insecure across the region. The next day, nearly 15 student volunteers braved some chilly temps for the Center for Civic Engagement’s first Habitat for Humanity build of the new year.
