Community Engagement Council to Discuss 106 Coming St. Project
The council’s next meeting is scheduled for Jan. 8, 2026.

The College of Charleston will continue its efforts to partner with a diverse group of community members to help guide the commemoration and development efforts of Coming Street Commons, a planned student residence hall at 106 Coming St. in downtown Charleston.
The Community Engagement Council (CEC) will meet on Thursday, Jan. 8, 2026. The CEC held its first meeting on Nov. 12, 2025, and met again on Dec. 4 for further discussion and collaboration.
Agenda items for Thursday’s meeting include a presentation on alternative sites the College explored before acquiring the 106 Coming St. property from a private developer and a presentation on the sequencing and steps of permitting and agency approvals.
The CEC meeting will start at 6 p.m. at the Riley Center on the College of Charleston’s WestEdge property (176 Lockwood Drive in Charleston).
The CEC will play a central role in supporting the College’s efforts to honor and memorialize both the former potter’s field and the former YWCA building, providing insight and feedback on potential memorial events and interpretive approaches to the commemoration efforts associated with this project.
Those interested in the project can read a list of frequently asked questions and answers on the project website and join the mailing list at the bottom of the Get Involved webpage. The next CEC meeting is scheduled for Feb. 5, 2026.
