It’s officially starting to feel like fall here at the College of Charleston. With the start of classes and pumpkin spice latte season in full swing, The College Today caught up with five students to see what they’re most excited about this school year.

From seniors savoring their final year to freshmen beginning brand-new journeys, it’s clear that CofC students are embracing this academic year with excitement, curiosity and a sense of possibility.

Sara Hattaway
Senior Communication Major

This year, Sarah Hattaway is taking some exciting courses, including the COMM Agency Capstone, Strategic Narrative in Placemaking, and Writing Through the Eras, a class all about Taylor Swift and how her lyrics connect to identity and relationships.

“This year, I want to enjoy the little things, like sitting at the Cistern between classes or being a short walk from King Street. Overall, I’m just excited to take in everything this special year has to offer.”

Mitchelle Mulari
Freshman International Business and Dance Double Major

This year, Mitchelle Mulari is eager to dive into all that Charleston and the College have to offer – especially opportunities in the School of the Arts. Originally from Kenya, she is looking forward to joining different clubs so she can meet new people and expand her network.

“I’ve come a long way to be here. I’m excited to make as many connections as possible and to get very involved on campus.”

William Evans
Sophomore Accounting Major

This year, William Evans plans to continue exploring the beautiful place he gets to call home. He is especially excited to be just a quick drive from the beach – something that’s hard to resist when you’re having the kind of weather we’ve been having. It’s not surprising that – when asked what he’s looking forward to the most – he answered without hesitation:

“The beach, easily.”

This year, Egypt Anthony will continue in her leadership roles across campus. She serves on five executive boards, including as vice president of the CofC chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc., as well as roles with the Student Ambassadors, Collegiate Curls, Charleston 40 and the National Association of Black Accountants. She is eager for the school year to get into full swing and be a part of something bigger than herself with all of these organizations.

“I’m excited to keep building on the work I’ve started with all these organizations and to continue making an impact on campus.”

“I’m looking forward to making the most of senior year.”
