The College of Charleston is grieving the loss of a beloved instructor, Heather Hall, who died Wednesday in an accident in Portugal. Hall was a Department of Teacher Education faculty member specializing in literacy and special education.

“This is a tragic loss for all of us. Heather’s untimely death occurred while she was in Lisbon to speak at a conference. As an alumna of the College (‘97) and a dynamic instructor with a specialization is special education, she shared her love of travel with her students. Her energy, kindness and student-centeredness will be deeply missed,” said School of Education Dean Fran Welch

As a Fulbright Scholar in Ghana, Hall learned how to understand and celebrate other cultures. She shared her love of travel with her students on study abroad trips to Italy. She was planning future learning experiences in Iceland and Belize.

The College of Charleston extends its deepest condolences to Hall’s family and friends.

Support for those impacted is being offered. Students can receive assistance by contacting the Counseling Center, and faculty and staff may contact AllOne Health. These resources are free, confidential and available to all College of Charleston affiliates.
