College of Charleston Appoints New Chief Information Officer
On Monday, Aug. 11, 2025, College of Charleston President Andrew T. Hsu sent the campus community the following message regarding the College's new CIO, Sasan Poureetezadi:
Dear Campus Community,
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Sasan Poureetezadi as the new Chief Information Officer (CIO). Sasan brings more than 25 years of visionary leadership, innovation and deep expertise in information technology, higher education, municipal governance and strategic partnerships.
Sasan joins us from the Town of Gilbert, Arizona – one of the fastest-growing municipalities in the country – where he has served as Chief Technology Officer since 2019. In this role, he led a team of more than 60 IT professionals and managed a $25 million technology budget. His work modernizing public safety technology, deploying cutting-edge cloud architecture and implementing AI-powered services earned Gilbert national recognition as a top digital city and positioned it as a model for tech-forward civic engagement.
Prior to his tenure in local government, Sasan served in multiple executive roles within Maricopa Community Colleges, one of the largest community college systems in the U.S. As Interim President and Vice President of Information Technology at Mesa Community College and Chief Strategy Officer within the Maricopa Community Colleges system, Sasan provided strategic leadership across a large academic enterprise, spearheaded innovative industry partnerships with Apple, Microsoft and Amazon, and launched one of the nation’s first Blockchain Certificate programs.
Earlier in his career, Sasan held leadership roles at Arizona State University’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism, where he supported state-of-the-art news media technology, and he began his career in nonprofit technology with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Phoenix. Across these roles, Sasan has consistently demonstrated a commitment to inclusive access, forward-thinking strategy and the fusion of technology and mission-driven outcomes.
Sasan holds an M.Ed. in higher education from Northern Arizona University, a B.S. in sociology from Arizona State University, and an A.A. from Mesa Community College. He also has 15 years of experience as a college instructor, bringing a deep understanding of faculty and student needs to his IT leadership.
Sasan will play a central role in shaping the digital infrastructure that supports our academic mission and will work across divisions to ensure the College remains a leader in today’s rapidly evolving digital landscape.
Please join me in welcoming Sasan to the College of Charleston community. He will officially begin his role as CIO on September 1, 2025.
Sincerely,
Andrew
