Cameron Bauer

Cameron Bauer ’17
Assistant Director of Regional Advancement – Northeast, Division of Institutional Advancement

Background: I am from Massachusetts. I attended the College. I spent the last six years working in Congress. In the past few years, I married my wife, Briana, and we moved to New Jersey, where we bought our first home.

Interests: I love sports, including football, baseball, basketball and golf. I used to play all of them, but now I mostly play golf. I have a love of history and music. I am a musician, playing drums and guitar. I am also an avid reader.

Looking Forward: CofC gave me so much while I was there. It put my train on the tracks. I had passion and drive, but, while there, I honed my interest and skills, which led to a rich, interesting career in government and politics. I am looking to share that experience with alumni and hopeful students. I want to be back a part of the College community.

Karen Coltrane

Karen Coltrane
Adjunct Faculty, Schools of Business and Education

Background: I’m originally from Virginia, where I earned my B.A. in economics from the College of William and Mary. Later, I pursued my M.S. in leadership and organizational development from The Citadel. My professional background spans over 30 years of leadership experience in both nonprofit and for-profit organizations. Currently, I serve as the CEO of the Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry, where I collaborate with leaders across the business, government and social sectors to provide a thriving early-childhood and family-learning resource for the region. Before joining the College of Charleston, I built my career leading mission-driven organizations across a range of sectors, focusing on strategic growth, community engagement and leadership development. My passion for mentoring future leaders and sharing real-world insights has brought me to the classroom, where I hope to help students connect academic concepts with practical applications.

Expertise: I am particularly interested in the connection between social enterprises and nonprofits.

Outside Interests: Outside of work, I have a passion for both commercial and residential design, finding inspiration in creative spaces and unique architecture. I love taking long walks around Charleston, soaking in the charm of the city while discovering hidden gems along the way. Time with family, friends and – let’s be honest – every dog I’ve ever met, is what brings me the most joy. And when I’m not walking, designing or socializing, you’ll likely find me completely immersed in a podcast, exploring everything from business to functional health topics.

Looking Forward: What excites me most about the courses I’ll teach is the opportunity to help students connect theory to real-world application in meaningful ways. In my business school class, I’m eager to guide students in thinking more deeply about how businesses and society influence each other. By introducing them to a leadership framework, they’ll begin to explore how their own personalities shape their leadership styles – a powerful tool for self-awareness and growth as they prepare for their careers. In my education school class, I’m thrilled to introduce the concept of teaching in informal settings. Using the Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry as a living laboratory, students will not only learn theoretical concepts, but also practice and refine their skills in a dynamic, hands-on environment.

Samantha Connors

Samantha Connors ’16
Campus Communications Coordinator, Office of Marketing and Communications

Background: I grew up in a small town in Connecticut before moving to Charleston to attend the College of Charleston in 2012. After graduating from CofC with a B.A. in English, I worked at numerous local publications, including Charleston Magazine, Edible Charleston and Charleston City Paper, where I was the managing editor. I’ve also worked as a freelance writer, creating marketing content for companies and writing stories for local and regional publications, including CultureTrip, Eater Carolinas, Thrillist, Mount Pleasant Magazine and more.

Interests: I’m a big reader – my goal this year is to finish 40 books. When I’m not lost in a captivating fictional plot or learning something new in a nonfiction book, I enjoy writing. I also love riding my bike, working outside in my garden and cuddling my cat. I recently began learning how to sew, and I’m hoping to learn how to make clothes.

Looking Forward: As an alumna, I’m looking forward to being back on the gorgeous campus and part of the CofC community again. I’m also excited to learn more about my colleagues and meet the students in the fall.

Whitney Cwirka

Whitney Cwirka
Assistant Director of Annual Giving Direct Marketing, Division of Institutional Advancement

Background: From the time I was little, growing up in the (formerly) small town of Summerville, South Carolina, I’ve always thought in words. My love for words carried through earning my bachelor’s degree in journalism and mass communication from the University of South Carolina. It was after college, during the tumultuous time around 2009, that I was fortunate to land my first job at United Way. There, I got to experience what it was like to build relationships while driving toward a mission. Between then and now, I leaned into the communication side of my degree, becoming more fluent in content marketing and running my own freelance-writing business for the past five years. Now, it feels like I get to come full circle as I join CofC.

Interests: I am a person who is always on the go, whether by personality or virtue of an intensely active, young son. My interests include tennis, walking my pup, exploring creative outlets in Charleston, reading, listening to podcasts, traveling and spending time outside with my son and husband.

Looking Forward: I am really looking forward to working in the academic environment and building relationships across the CofC community that support its growth and well-being.

I am a CPA, and practiced public accounting during the early 2000s prior to joining Cummins Inc.

Interests: Family is very important to me. I enjoy spending time outdoors, exercising, traveling and doing most anything with my family. I am married to my husband of 17 years and have one son, Cooper, age 12.

Looking Forward: I am looking forward to a whole different segment of finance and accounting. Mostly though, I am excited about the culture and environment the College of Charleston has to offer. I have always wanted to work for a university and have even envisioned teaching someday!
