5 Favorite Dishes From the College of Charleston Dining Halls

Who's hungry? Check out these five favorite dishes from the Liberty St. Food Hall and the City Bistro to satisfy your cravings all week long!

Students take a break from studying to eat a midnight breakfast and let off some steam at Liberty Fresh Foods Company on Tuesday night December 3, 2019.

Are you hungry?

The College of Charleston knows that’s not really a question when you’re talking to college students – which is why Charleston Culinary Group makes sure there are plenty of dining options to meet all the Cougars’ cravings. CofC’s campus features two buffet-style dining halls, along with an Einstein Bros. Bagels, Chick-fil-A, Starbucks, Kosher-certified Marty’s Place and various on-the-go stops to grab a quick bite.

While Chick-fil-A, Starbucks, Marty’s Place and Einstein Bros. Bagels are definitely popular food destinations on campus, the dining halls offer plenty of culinary favorites to CofC students. And the fact that they are “all you care to eat” doesn’t hurt either.

Here are five favorites (and one honorable mention) in the dining halls across campus!

There’s nothing quite like a warm, buttery Belgian waffle smothered in maple syrup and topped with a sweet fruit filling. And the CofC culinary crew knows that. Every Saturday, Chef’s Corner at City Bistro features a make-your-own waffle station so students can indulge in a sweet start to their day – or a sweet end since the waffles are available all day! So, whether you’re an early bird or a night owl, this golden-brown treat is calling your name.

If you’re in the mood for a healthier breakfast option, then try a smoothie from Liberty St. Food Hall’s Juice Bar. Go the sweeter route with fruits like mangos, bananas and blueberries or opt for a more savory drink with ingredients like kale, carrots or peanut butter. Make sure you stop in before 11 a.m. because this blend-your-own smoothie station is only open for breakfast hours!

The Grill at Liberty St. Food Hall is always fired up, especially when it comes to hamburgers. Every day for either lunch or dinner, students can enjoy this charred quarter-pound classic. Choose from a solid selection of condiments to add a little extra flavor, whether you want to keep it simple with ketchup or spice it up with jalapeño peppers. And did someone say fries?

The açaí craze is still trending and so is City Bistro’s Açaí Bar. Every Friday at Chef’s Corner, enjoy this puréed berry sorbet sprinkled with your choice of sliced strawberries, tangy pineapple, chocolate chips and/or honey granola. Especially as the weather warms up, students will appreciate this cool, refreshing snack.

Ham and cheese. Turkey and Swiss. Roast beef and provolone. PB&J. Can’t decide? Well, the Deli at City Bistro and the Stack at Liberty St. Food Hall can prepare all your staple sandwiches for lunch, dinner or an afternoon snack! Choose from a variety of breads, meats, cheeses, toppings and dressings to craft your perfect sandwich. You can even pop it in the toaster-oven to turn any sub into a melt-in-your-mouth delight!

We’d be remiss to leave out the crispy, golden brown, chicken tenders at City Bistro. Unlike the options above, this one only pops up every once in a while at Bistro’s Mongolian Grill station. But that element of surprise makes them all the better. Here’s to being in the right place at the right time!
