In his debut on the Advocates pro golf tour, senior Kieron van Wyk becomes the first amateur to win on the circuit.

College of Charleston senior Kieron van Wyk captured the season-opening tournament on the Advocates Professional Golf Association Tour, becoming the first amateur golfer to win an APGA event since the tour started in 2010.

The Farmers Insurance Invitational on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2025, at Torrey Pines Golf Course in La Jolla, California, also happened to be van Wyk’s debut on the APGA Tour. A native of South Africa, van Wyk made par on the 18th hole in regulation, then birded the same hole twice in a three-man, sudden-death playoff that went two holes.
