For the second year in a row, the College of Charleston Emergency Medical Services team won first place in the statewide Paramedic Savers essential life support competition. The event was part of the Dorchester County Emergency Medical Services Conference earlier this month.
Sophomore Will Self and junior Ryan Charland placed first in the competition, beating several paid, full-time career EMS departments statewide. The competition involved a simulated high-fidelity medical scenario that challenged providers to think quickly and treat their patients.
Self and Charland will compete in the National Collegiate EMS Foundation competition next year.
