Faculty Staff News

Meet Cam Saleeby '10, director of the visitor experience in the Office of Admissions.

Name: Cam Saleeby

Hometown: Spartanburg, South Carolina

Education/Background: Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies, College of Charleston, 2010

Job title: Director of the Visitor Experience, Office of Admissions

How long have you worked at the College? 13 years

What are your job responsibilities? My team welcomes all the visiting prospective students and families to campus each day. We run the tours, opens houses, Admitted Students Days, etc.

What do you like most about your job? I am the advisor for the Charleston 40 tour guide organization, and I love working with those amazing students daily.

What question do you get asked most in your job and what’s your typical answer? I get the question, “Why the College of Charleston?” from prospective students. I tell them that the community you can build on our campus will change your life forever. From classmates to professors, you will have so many people rooting for you to succeed. I know that I did as a student on campus, and it impacted me greatly.

What’s your favorite location on campus and why? I really love the new Cougar Cave in the Office of Admissions! It is our new student lounge for all our amazing student workers. Our student workers bring a lot of energy and laughter to the space, and I get to interact with all the students that help make Admissions run.

What are your hobbies? Is going to the beach a hobby? I love to hang out with friends at new restaurants, and I enjoy doing yoga and playing pickup basketball in the Silcox Gym.

What personal and/or professional accomplishment are you most proud of? I won Advisor of the Year for the College of Charleston in 2023, and it really means a lot to me. The student guides nominated me, and I was very proud and humbled that they felt strongly enough to do so. In all I do on campus, I try to make sure I am being student focused.

Name a creative work (book, movie, performance, etc.) you enjoyed recently and why? I recently reread The Club: How English Premier League Became the Wildest, Richest and Most Disruptive Force in Sports, again and it is a great read. I am a big soccer fan and love English football, so it just was interesting to delve deep into the league I watch every week.

What was your favorite TV show growing up? Might as well date myself here, but I loved Malcolm in the Middle growing up. An underrated comedy show.

What’s next on your bucket list? I want to go to Japan and eat all the ramen I can get my hands on.

What is something your campus colleagues would be surprised to know about you? I have traveled to 35 countries.

What was your first job? My first real job was lifeguarding at a local pool in my hometown. My dad would say mowing our lawn, however.

What’s your favorite Lowcountry restaurant? I really love Melfi’s Italian restaurant. Great drinks and even better pasta.

Describe your perfect day: Beach all day with friends and family and then ending the day with a cold adult beverage at my favorite bar, The Local 616.
