The fourth annual Women for Women Summit, presented by the College of Charleston School of Business, will be held on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2024. The summit is upgrading to a larger venue – the Charleston Galliard Center – to unpack this year’s theme: bold.

“We are honored to host another year of the Women for Women Summit,” says Paul Schwager, dean of the School of Business. “The summit is an important platform that celebrates the achievements of business leaders, fosters connections and inspires our students – the next generation of leaders. This year’s event promises to be both insightful and inspiring.”

The summit is a full day of inspiring discussions and networking opportunities for women across the state to celebrate, elevate, share and connect with one another.

This year’s keynote speaker is Governor Lisa Cook of the Federal Reserve Board. Prior to her appointment to the board, Cook was a professor of economics and international relations at Michigan State University.

“Lisa Cook embodies our theme boldness in every facet of her journey, from breaking barriers in her field to advocating for equality and innovation,” says Joanna Lau, chair of the Women for Women Summit and founder of Lau Acquisition Corporation. “As our keynote speaker, she inspires us to embrace boldness in our own lives, encouraging us to lead with courage and conviction. We are thrilled to have her share her powerful story and insights at this year’s event.”

Mary Thornley is the 2024 Woman of Courage Award honoree. This award is presented every year at the Women for Women Summit to a woman who is a proven and impactful leader and has made a significant achievement in their field.

Thornley was president of Trident Technical College from 1991 until July 2024. She truly believes in the transformational power of education and is passionate about the community college’s role in making our communities and our nation stronger, more adaptable and better able to face the challenges of the future. Thornley has received numerous awards and recognitions, including the South Carolina Order of the Palmetto.
