Dear Faculty and Staff,

I am pleased to announce that Narayanan Kuthirummal, professor of physics and astronomy, will assume the role of interim dean of the new School of Engineering, Computing, and Mathematics on July 1, 2024.

NK received his Ph.D. in physics from Banaras Hindu University (Varanasi, India), his M.Sc. in physics with electronics from Cochin University of Science and Technology (Kochi, India) and B.Sc. in physics with math and chemistry from Calicut University (Kozhikode, India). He came to the College of Charleston in 2004, after serving as a Postdoctoral Associate at Brown University and as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Tawain’s Academia Sinica and India’s Center for Cellular & Molecular Biology.

NK is an accomplished teacher-scholar, having earned a Fulbright-Nehru Senior Scholar Award in 2022 as well as the Distinguished Teaching Award from the College of Charleston in 2010. Perhaps, most importantly, he was instrumental in the creation of our university’s engineering programs, serving as the founding director of the engineering program from 2019 to 2021. NK served as chair of the Department of Physics and Astronomy for ten years and most recently, as associate dean of SSME.

I look forward to NK joining the senior leadership team and leading SECM during this interim period. His institutional knowledge, his expertise across disciplines and his passion for this new school will serve him well. Please join me in congratulating NK for stepping into this important leadership role.

Sincerely,

Suzanne
