College of Charleston Releases 2022-23 Sustainability Report

The Center for Sustainable Development has released the College of Charleston 2022-2023 Sustainability Report. The report showcases the College’s significant progress toward the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Among the highlights of the report:

  • The College earned a STARS Silver rating in recognition of its sustainability achievements from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE).
  • Energy efficiency upgrades are expected to save the College $1.8 million per year and reduce emissions by 30%.
  • The College’s Mindful Move-Out diverted more than 23,000 lbs. of reusable or recyclable items from the landfill.
  • The CSD is working with the Post Landfill Action Network to develop a community informed Zero Waste Action Plan.

“The campus continues to make great progress on all four pillars of the Sustainability Action Plan: climate neutrality, zero waste, holistic integrated learning and active sustainability culture,” says John Morris, vice president of Facilities Management. “Kudos to our team in the Center for Sustainable Development and to everyone who supports their efforts.”
