The College of Charleston has introduced an opt-in feature for customized email addresses using @charleston.edu.

As part of ongoing efforts to enhance national brand identity and online presence, this new email address not only reflects a commitment to innovation and excellence, but it strengthens a sense of unity and pride as members of the College of Charleston community.

“We’re excited about this important change to our brand and the recognition it will bring,” says Mark Staples, senior vice president and chief information officer of information technology at the College. “This is one of the College of Charleston’s many steps toward becoming a nationally recognized university.”

How Can This Email Be Used?

It is important to note that, should you opt in, this is an email alias only. Your primary email address and username (your credentials for MyPortal, campus wifi, OAKS, etc.) will remain as your current @cofc.edu or @g.cofc.edu address.

  • This email empowers you to receive email from campus members and external users as username@charleston.edu.
  • You may add this address to business cards, subscribe to distribution lists and newsletters and sign up to external systems.
  • Any mail sent to the @charleston.edu will correctly route to your mailbox and you can check it like you would any other email. No change is required on your part to enjoy this new feature.
  • You may also send emails as your username@charleston.edu. To successfully send emails, you must make some adjustments to your email client (Gmail, Outlook, etc.) and in your sending practices.

What Do I Need to Know?

  • To send email as username@charleston.edu, these changes have to be made on each mail client instance and require the most current versions.
  • Only current approved College email programs (Outlook desktop, web, and mobile clients) are supported at this time for this option.
  • More information about using @charleston.edu alias email address is available here.
