The College of Charleston Emergency Medical Services team recently won first place in the statewide “Paramedic Savers” basic life support competition. The event was part of the Dorchester County Emergency Medical Services Conference in November.

Student Director Parker Lutz and Student Deputy Director Ryan Charland placed first in the competition, beating several paid, full-time career EMS departments from across the state. The competition involved a simulated high-fidelity medical scenario that challenged providers to think quickly and treat their patients.

Lutz is majoring in public health and Charland is majoring in business management at the College of Charleston.
