CofC Podcast: Tips for Incoming Students

On this episode three student orientation leaders provide tips on how to come to college prepared.

The days leading up to move-in day for incoming college students are often filled with excitement, anxiety and lots of questions.

What do I need to pack? How do I meet people? Where do I go for help? It’s easy to get overwhelmed, and it’s important to remember that many other students have asked similar questions as they have gotten ready to arrive on the College of Charleston campus for the first time.

President Hsu welcomes back students to campus on move in day

The interns featured include:

Lauren Pinto
Double major in finance and mathematics with an actuarial studies concentration
Hometown: White Plains, New York
Clubs & Activities: Center for Student Learning tutor, supplemental instructor

Bella Pack
Philosophy major with a politics, philosophy and law concentration and a minor in Spanish
Hometown: Murrell’s Inlet, South Carolina
Clubs & Activities: Peer educator, resident assistant and vice president of the Red Cross club

Jalen Newell
Double major in biology and international studies with a minor in neuroscience on the pre-med track
Hometown: Goose Creek, South Carolina
Clubs: Black Student Union, student alumni associate and 1967 Legacy scholar

Pinto, Pack and Newell offer a variety of ways to simplify easing into college life, such as:

  • Be prepared to sweat on move-in day
  • Be a “minimalist” when deciding what to bring to campus
  • Learn how to do your laundry before you come
  • Put yourself out there to make friends
  • Get involved with clubs and organizations
  • When you’re feeling stressed ask for help from resident assistants, professors, peer educators and the Counseling Center

Students living on campus will move in on Aug. 19 and Aug. 20, 2022. Classes for the fall 2022 semester begin Aug. 23.
